There are many different cities in Ukraine that you want to visit. Each of them has its own amazing pearls that can impress anyone. Although it may seem that Kharkov, its sights and interesting places can not surprise travelers, I will try to dispel this view. The city originates in the middle of the XVII century, and a huge number of architectural constructions of Kharkov confirm the beauty of that century.
Fountain "Mirror Stream"
The fountain “Mirror Stream” is one of the modern symbols of Kharkov, built in the 40s of the last century. Located in the heart of the city, in the Victory Square

The history of the creation.

Glass, or Mirror Stream - is a fountain and a gazebo nearby, which, when combined, form the ideal resting place. None of the excursions pass by, and the wedding photo session has a mandatory photo point at the main fountain of the city. The history of this place is no less interesting. A few centuries ago there was a cemetery here. At the beginning of the 18th century a wooden church was built on its territory, which was named Mironosnitskaya. In 1781–1783 the church was rebuilt, a stone one was erected instead of a wooden church. But the city grew rapidly, there was not enough room for residential areas, so the cemetery was moved. At the beginning of the 20th century, a bell tower was attached to the church, which became the second largest in the city after the Assumption Cathedral. With the advent of Soviet power in 1930, the shrine was demolished. Instead, the church was going to build a music theater, however, due to the transfer of the capital to Kiev, these plans were not realized. According to legend, the “Mirror Stream” appeared in 1947 thanks to Nikita Khrushchev. The territory of the former cemetery was empty. She decided to use as a trolley park in the open. But the panorama was still absolutely unpresentable. And so, seeing the wasteland from the window of the regional committee, Khrushchev allegedly cursed the head of the Kharkov communists for a dull landscape. As a result of the discussion, it was decided to build a park with a fountain at this place. Whether this legend is true is difficult to say now. In Soviet times, the park was laid by popular efforts. Next to the gazebo built a pool, which was first surrounded by a brick, and then a granite fence. In 2007, the reconstruction of the fountain was carried out, during which 137 nozzles, 135 searchlights and 2 artificial fog plants were installed. Now the “Mirror Stream” is one of the most popular places where residents and guests of Kharkov spend their leisure time.

The appearance of the monument to Taras Shevchenko in Kharkov was an important event of the city. The great poet was of great importance for the formation and development of Ukrainian literature. He was a fighter for the freedom of the Ukrainian people, for his better future. The monument to Taras Shevchenko was solemnly opened on March 24, 1935 in a park named after him. It was created by the hands of the sculptor Matthew Manizer and architect Joseph Langbard. The monument is made in the style then popular Stalinist baroque and is a multi-faceted composition. His stepped structure ends with a 4.5-meter figure of Taras Shevchenko, who angrily squeezes his right hand into a fist and frowns. On the pedestal itself, 16 dynamic figures of smaller size are placed in a spiral. Among them, you can see the serfs, among whom rose sings, the heroes of his works and simple workers. All figures of the monument are made of black labradorite weighing 30 tons.
